“Autumn is a second spring, where every leaf is a flower”
Albert Camus
When i was just a little girl, at least until i became an older adolescent, I hated cold seasons like autumn and winter, especially because they came after that enthusiastic and frenetic summer where swimming or playing was everything the day was about. Besides that, autumn came with other not preferred events like the beginning of the school, the promises that you have to be a better child this year, the duties and responsibilities of “homework’s” at school, and so on…Also i hated those rainy days when you could not get out and play around and ultimately those smokey panoramas outside the window which showed that day was night, as soon as a blink of the eye.
As time went by, gradually my perceptions around autumn changed altogether. It became a sweet season, filled with nostalgic feelings as i walked down Tevere river, infringing those tiny and delicate leaves beneath my feet. It made me nostalgic but grateful at the same time, for what went by and for how lucky i was to have wonderful memories about last summer. Of course there were times, where autumn again didn’t feel right but year after year i began to appreciate it more and more.
Even today, if i am feeling sluggish and blue during those autumn days, i try to do these small little things:
Take a walk around
It could be around your home, or it could be a walk in the city center or it could be some jogging in a slow pace. It doesn’t matter what you do, what does matter is to find some time on your own to spend outside and admire the wonderful air and colorus that are waiting for you outside. September and October, especially for those leaving in South Estearn Europe like me, are months with beautiful weather and comfortable climate. You can breath a cold but not so cold air, think about yourself, your blessings and your plans for the future. Just find some time, and go out there…and breath!
Feel lucky
About what? About having a home, a warm blanket, a child, a family a cat or a dog, a pair of new pijamas, a large sofa and a hot cup of tea or coffee. Isn’t that enough? Of course it is.
I know human beings like to have beautiful things lasting forever but life comes in cycles. You can not enjoy spring without going through winter and the sun can not bright you right if don’t go through a long night. So that is why, we nned to enjoy evert little feeling we get even from simple and easy activities, which unfortunately we take for granted. Have you ever experienced that you miss you home more than ever when you are for example in a long flight, going from an airport to another, and belonging nowhere. “Home, sweet home”! Autumn and winter are perfect seasons to enjoy your home, in all its small details.
Travel, in time in space…
Autumn is the perfect season to travel. Find a place you have never been before, it doesn’t have to be far away, it could be a small village around you. Distance doesn’t make things better or worst. Small villages have wonderful earth colors in autumn and winter. If you love photography like me, you can enjoy a good snapshoot which will also be your memories of that day. If you are lazy, like sometimes all of us are, don’t get out of home. Travel in time and space watching a movie, in your warm sofa with your family of by yourself, covered in a comfortable position which will leave you feeling relaxed and peaceful after that, of course if it not a horror movie! :p
