I am a woman, in my late thirties, a mother and a wife, and also a manager working a 9to6 job every single day. There are days when I feel that even if night was day, I could not accomplish what i wanted to in a single day. There is so much to do…
I bet that you, who are reading this article, are feeling the same way, that is why you are here. In these days we are all running. We are rushing, over everything, over everyone, over ourselves. There are moments that we realize it, make some promise to change our daily routine leaving place for some peaceful and comfortable moments but the idea goes away quickie than it came. At the very end, yesterday is same as today and today is same as tomorrow, feeling busy and overwhelmed.
What can we do about that?
I have experimented different techniques and advices by other people and i will list the most efficient ones, at least for me.
- Take a pet
Pet? Are you kidding? Like add another duty on the daily to do list? Well, yes…I am serious!
Pets are wonderful stress reliever’s. When you stay with them and talk with them and play with them, they make you forget all the problems, giving an internal peace which affects your rising energy for accomplishing other things. It has such a healing effect that its been called Pet Therapy.
According to Mayo Clinic, Pet therapy is a broad term that includes animal-assisted therapy and other animal-assisted activities. Animal-assisted therapy is a growing field that uses dogs or other animals to help people recover from or better cope with health problems, such as heart disease, cancer and mental health disorders.
Animal-assisted activities, on the other hand, have a more general purpose, such as providing comfort and enjoyment for nursing home residents.
- Have a long good bath
After all, we are humans and humans love water and the calm feeling it gives us. Water is one the 4 basic elements of life, it is what naturally composes us and what gives us energy. Have you noticed how good you feel after having a bath at the beach or after swimming for 30 minutes at the swimming pool?
Not only there are some hormones like endorphins, related to the physical activity of swimming and bathing but also there is a certain sense of calmness and clearness that comes after doing these kind of activities.
If you are not near a beach in summer or swimming pool in other seasons, there is no problem. Yu can have a bath at home for like 30 min, adding some good essential oils for more effect. Even if you don’t own a bathing tub, you can only do a feet bath, soaking your feet for at least 30 minutes in water with baking soda, salts or essential oils like lavender, chamomile and ylang ylang.
- Meditate
Meditation is the habitual process of training your mind to focus and give a certain direction to your thoughts. It is a process that aims to lengthen the distance between you and your “monkey mind”. Monkey mind is the so called mind that keeps thinking and overthinking continously without stopping and that drains energy from your mind and body. The popularity of meditation is increasing as more people discover its many health benefits.
According to healthline.com, people also use the practice to develop other beneficial habits and feelings, such as a positive mood and outlook, self-discipline, healthy sleep patterns, and even increased pain tolerance. Overall objective is to reduce stress in order to have more clear space in your mind so that you can use for other beneficial activities like spending qualitative time with your kids, engaging in physical activities or being more comfortable in your own coach watching your favorite movie.
- Share Experience
Sharing same experience with people who are encountering the same problems as you or who have a similar lifestyle as you do is very beneficial. We are humans and we like to match and mirror our experiences and reactions to those of other people, preferably similar to us.
So take that phone, limit the time spent inactively in social media, call a friend or a colleague who is undergoing the same life pattern as you and talk about how he/she handles different problems. People like to give advices but being advised is also a wonderful thing. You can change some behavior and/or ease some problems by listening to how other people has handled the same situations.
- Let yourself to be coached by a professional coach
Similar to sharing experience with others is share your problems with a certified coach who can help you get the most out of yourself when it comes to use your potential at your maximum.
Coaching has become a real trend nowadays, for obvious reasons. You can leave yourself entirely in the hands of a professional coach who will drive you in a road to explore most of your potential so that your can reach your desired outcome, in this case how to handle overwhelming without feeling overwhelmed.
